Hormone Therapy in Tallahassee

Hormone Therapy is a hormone-based treatment plan designed to combat hormone imbalances that occur as we age. Our customized hormone therapy plans are managed by Dr. Jason Farrah, MD in conjunction with Dr. Jeffrey Farrah, DC, RN who have 25+ years of combined medical training in the field. All treatments are done in our office with personal access to our doctors, we do not pass your care off to assistants or staff members. We will also assist in any way possible with billing your insurance company but in most instances, insurance only covers portions of treatment plans.

1Why Hormone Therapy?

Studies have shown that balanced hormones are necessary for both good health and disease prevention. As we age, the balance of our hormones can be thrown off by any number of factors and these hormone imbalances can cause a multitude of issues including: weight gain, hair loss, depression, memory loss, mood swings, decreased sex drive, and constant fatigue. Our hormone therapy plans are designed to re-balance your body’s natural hormone levels, resulting in a healthier, happier you. We offer several different types of hormone therapy, with a majority of patients taking hormones as pills, injection based or pellet therapy hormone replacement.

2How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy Work?

Our doctors will work with you to get: a comprehensive review of your symptoms and medical history and samples for laboratory testing to see exactly what hormonal, vitamin, or lab values are not optimized. In return, we will develop a plan for you including: hormone replacement options, ongoing evaluations, the highest quality supplements, nutrition plans, and more. 3What is Pellet Therapy?

Pellet hormone therapy uses naturally derived hormones to get your body’s hormone levels back to optimal ranges for your body. Unlike other methods of hormone therapy which can cause severe drops and spikes in your hormones, pellets provide a consistent low release of what you need to provide the best experience possible. The pellets are small, some as small as grains of rice, and are placed just under the skin and offers the advantage of less frequent maintenance, with pellet insertion needing to be done about every 3 to 4 months. This procedure is easily performed in our office. Given Dr. Jason Farrah’s extensive surgical background, recovery time is usually quite limited.

4How Does Pellet Therapy Work?
Hormone Pellet Implantation

Over the years, numerous studies have demonstrated that bioidentical hormone pellet therapy is very efficient at restoring youthful hormone levels, which usually decline with age. Placed right under the skin, these pellet implants release low, constant doses of hormones, providing the body with the necessary amount of hormones it needs to function optimally each day. A great thing about using bio-identical hormone pellets is that, unlike other hormone replacement therapies, they don’t produce a ‘roller coaster’ effect, which can have a dramatic impact on your health and wellbeing.

The Procedure

Subcutaneous pellet therapy involves a minor surgical procedure usually performed under local anesthesia. The doctor makes a small incision, and then a hormone pellet about the size of a grain of rice is implanted under the skin. Wound healing takes between three to five days, during which time period of time the patient is advised to avoid tub bathing and swimming.

The Pros and Cons

Since pellet therapy uses bioidentical hormones, it’s ideal for anyone who wants to benefit from a hormone replacement therapy without the drawbacks of synthetically derived hormones. But this isn’t the only benefit associated with pellet implants. Some other notable advantages include:

  • Convenience: Unlike other hormone products that must be taken or applied once or twice a day, hormone pellets last for about three to four months in women and four to six months in men.
  • Safety: Since bioidentical hormone pellets deliver steady levels of hormones, the body is able to absorb the number of hormones it needs in a regular manner. In addition, unlike hormones included in oral combinations, which increase the production of clotting factors when passing through the liver during metabolism, hormone pellets are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, thus decreasing the risk of stroke and heart attack. Another essential thing is that natural hormone pellets have no side effects because the body uses just what it needs.
  • Efficiency: Compared with other hormone replacement methods, hormone pellet therapy has by far given the greatest relief from most symptoms relating to menopause and andropause, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, insomnia, fatigue, low sex drive, osteoporosis, and weight gain.
  • Dosing Adjustment: If the dose is inadequate, adjustments can be made through supplementation with additional hormone pellets or another bioidentical hormone replacement method. Usually, supplementation is needed until the next pellet implantation, when the dosage can be adjusted according to patient’s response.

While the pellet therapy offers many advantages, there are a few possible disadvantages, the most significant of which are listed below.

  • Complications: Since implanting hormones under the skin employs a small surgical procedure, certain complications, such as infection, nerve injury, and surgical scars may occur.
  • Pellet Re-Insertion: Depending on the biological individuality of each person, pellets may need to be inserted more often than every three or six months. As a general rule, hormone pellets are inserted more often in the beginning and less often after several insertions.
